Breeders Cup Betting Guide – James Bond takes Tizway out of Classic

James Bond thinks his horse was great and was really looking forward to showcasing his talents at the 2011 Breeders Cup Classic at Churchill Downs. Unfortunately for him and race fans, this isn’t going to happen.

Tuesday afternoon, Tizway was diagnosed with a strained suspensory ligament on his front left leg that will force him to miss the Breeders Cup as well as retire to stud at the B. Wayne Hughes’s Spendthrift Farm in Louisville, Kentucky.

It is always hard for a trainer to develop a horse to such a high level only to be relieved of the opportunity to shine in the spotlight. In a statement made on Tuesday afternoon, James Bond told media “Hopefully, his foals turn out to be half the horse he is”.

Just to add insult to injury, Bond feels that if he could give Tizway a couple months off, he would be fine and ready to race.

Had Tizway raced in a Breeders Cup victory, it would have inevitably guaranteed his spot as the horse of the year with previous wins at the 2011 G1 Metropolitan at Belmont Park and the 2011 G1 Whitney Invitational at Saratoga Racetrack.

Tizway will officially retire with a record of 7-1-5 in 20 starts and a grand total of $1,359,274. in earnings.
